It started with a Christmas gift…🎄

How did I get into design?

It was the Christmas of 2012, and my grandma, who was 85 at the time, had just received her new smartphone from my aunts. It was designed to cater especially to the elderly and everyone was so excited to finally get her into the “tech-world”. There was only one issue, no-one knew how to operate the “extra user-friendly” phone.

Which made me think, how can a product miss their target group completely?

Starting my journey with Product Design at KTH and making my way into IT at the startup Stravito, I knew that UX design was where it was at, combining my innovative, analysing and communicative skills. To have a chance of making a more accessible world, for all the grandmas out there. And where I could sketch things for a living?!

Things I love to do 🏋️‍♀️💕

If there’s something that really interests me, I go all in. Researching, watching documentaries, immersing myself in what that part of the world has to offer, you name it. Here are some of the top things that amuse me at the moment:

1. Sending Christmas cards 📬

Since I was a child, whenever I went abroad there was one thing I needed to do. A day off to buy and send postcards, preferably written with rhymes. So when I grew older, I didn’t feel like being abroad should be a criteria for sending cards. As of now, my Christmas cards have been sent all over Europe and Australia, and I'm planning to send one to Japan this year!

2. Sports 🏀

As I’ve played basketball for 12 years and represented Sweden in the Scandinavian high school games, I’m always up for an active challenge. The picture to the right is from last Easter, my first Snowboard trip. After 3 min of practice we went up the ski lift and lo and behold, I was tricked into a black ski slope. My legs turned into the colours of the Swedish flag, but it’s a memory I will treasure.

3. Cooooking! 🍳

My dad has always been my cooking inspiration. Ever since kindergarten he always made me guess which spices were in his dishes, which created a great relationship with how different flavours fit together. Now Indian, Korean, Peruvian cuisine are staples in my household. As my roommate said “Karolina, I think your love language is food”, and I have to agree.
